Hiding

Where would we be as a nation if it weren’t for the simple invention of putting something or someone out of sight? I shudder to think. This is not as simple as putting yourself somewhere practically invisible then jumping out on someone, that is ambush. Hiding is something is an act entirely unique to itself and for which it deserves full credit. Such a singular act and yet so powerful, hiding from enemies, hiding your feelings, hiding the stapler so it annoys that guy who sits next to you at work; all those examples are almost effortless in their execution and yet the return they yield is massive. If it wasn’t for hiding, we wouldn’t have ambushes. Think about that for a minute. Yeah, I know. Terrifying, isn’t it?

But unfortunately not everyone or everything can get in on this activity. Some beings on this planet were not meant for such subterfuge due to various space and mass issues, which sadly is where hiding is most disappointing. With this in mind hiding seems a bit elitist, a skill for the worthy. It seems to have almost priced itself right out of the market purely on poor planning in the early stages. When this concept was being worked out, way before the blueprint stages, surely there must have been some consideration that the nature of some objects and people in this world mean a lifetime without being able to hide in a cupboard or lurk in a doorway?

All in all it’s a timeless and enjoyable act but available only to a certain lucky few.

What is the deal with the site already:

Rate This Day is a site where music reviews are posted by the magic of electronic typing. These reviews are almost entirely written by me (John D) and I hope you enjoy my somewhat elitist and highly opinionated take on all things music.
