Superman

Ok so I may not be Superman, but rather surprisingly I don’t own any other Supes merchandise. I sold my ‘Returns’ DVD, never really got into the comics, and have no other memorabilia. But I do own the T-shirt, and I guess that sums up my love of Superman, because it’s totally about the image.

The character himself is not overly interesting. Sure you can read into Superman as a tortured soul who acts as a protector of mankind but could destroy the world in a blink if he wished. But to me I just see an excessively powerful hero who rarely faces any danger from his lackluster gallery of rogues (who can honestly list 5 decent Supes villains excluding Terrance Stamp as Zod?). In fact the only component of Superman which is thoroughly engaging is the Clark Kent persona, where this godlike-being is unable to use to powers to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him. Now thats an exciting challenge, and is far more entertaining than watching the Man of Steel bounce bullets, bend bars and generally be invincible to all threats (including death).

But the one thing about Superman which makes me love the guy is the image. That red, yellow and blue logo just looks damn cool and watching him fly in the movies while listening to that classic John Williams score…well even to this day that moves me.

Also Superman II was awesome and Christopher Reeve was an absolute legend.

Ridiculousness of General Zod’s costume: 5 out of 7

Superman’s ability to be a jerk: 7 out of 7

Rated: 5 out of 7
